God Speaks to Us in a Way We Can Understand

In Doctrine and Covenants 1:24, it says: Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding.” This verse shows how kind and patient God is with us. He doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He talks to us in a way we can understand—through our own words, culture, and experiences.

I saw this happen in my life when I was in an LDS high school in Mexico City. I remember when Elder Bednar came to visit. At that time, I didn’t feel like I had many spiritual experiences because I felt I wasn’t able to understand the leaders very much. But I really wanted to feel something, so I decided to prepare. I fasted, read the scriptures, and prayed for a whole month. I did everything I could to be ready.

When Elder Bednar spoke, I felt the Spirit so strongly that I cried. I knew God was there. I knew He was talking to me in a way I could feel and understand.

From that day, I learned something important: God can make our weaknesses strong if we try our best. Even if we don’t feel perfect or strong, He helps us when we show faith and effort.

God always talks to us with love. He knows us personally. He knows how to reach our hearts—if we listen and trust Him.
